Topas Ecolodge is located 18 km from Sapa, deep in the Hoang Lien Mountains. Our 66 bungalows overlook the entire valley with the ethnic minority villages of Ban Ho and Thanh Phu, 400 altitude meters below. Your journey from Hanoi to Sapa is by the new Topas Mountain Express. An 8 seats limousine with luxurious interior design, spacious and soft chairs, a nice 5 hours direct transfer. This package is a great active combination of hiking, cycling and culture exploring.

Day 1 – Comfortable drive to Topas Ecolodge. Take a biking tour to neighboring villages.

Our luxury Topas Mountain Express will pick you up at your Hanoi hotel between 6,30 and 7,00 and your approximately 5 hour journey to Topas Ecolodge has begun.

After checking into your bungalow, sit back and enjoy the beautiful and peaceful view of the surrounding mountains and valleys from your private balcony.

The cycling tour in the afternoon starts at Topas Ecolodge down a quiet road with great rice terrace views. After about 3 kilometers you will leave the bike behind and take the short hike into Lech village, once there you will visit a traditional wooden family home, meet the friendly Red Dao hosts and experience their daily way of life.

Back at the parking place, you will take a further ride to the Moi village and learn how the local women do their embroidery, which the Red Dao people are very famous for. The tour ends back at Topas Ecolodge where you may want to book a traditional Red Dao herbal bath or enjoy a relaxing massage at the spa.

Grade: Easy / approx. 1.5 hours biking / 30 minutes walking.

Day 2 – Hiking to the remote area of Sapa

Enjoy a great breakfast and prepare for today´s walk. At 9,00, you will commence the tour with a transfer deeper into Hoang Lien National Park to the trek starting point near Sin Chai village. You are now “off the beaten track” enjoying beautiful views of high mountains, waterfalls and the deep valleys. The trails will soon lead you to the Red Dao village of Nam Nhiu. Here you will meet the villagers, enjoy a cup of green tea in their house, and learn about their daily way of life. Leaving the village behind, you will turn into a small dirt trail and soon be inspired by the marvelous view of the rice valley dotted with bamboo huts, which are used by local farmers as overnight lodge during the harvest season.

Passing the rice terraces and a river you will walk on a quiet road for a while before arriving at Nam Cang village. Your lunch is served at Topas Riverside Lodge, set within the rainforest and on edge of the river.

Nam Cang village is located at one of the most remote areas of Sapa. The Red Dao women wear some of the most colorful and diverse costumes of all Vietnam’s ethnic groups. Herbal baths, local medicine and embroidery are some of the things that the Red Dao are very skilled at. Accompanied by your guide, you will explore the village and learn how the local villagers make writing rice paper, jewelry and embroidery. You may also want to take a refreshing swim in the river.

At 14:15, you will have a transfer back to Topas Ecolodge. The traditional Red Dao herbal bath is highly recommended if you missed the chance yesterday. The preparation of a herbal bath is quite a time consuming process and we can take very limited bookings daily, so please book in advance.

Day 3 – Back to the city life of Hanoi

Enjoy our great mountain breakfast and after check-out you can take our complimentary shuttle bus at 9,00 to Sapa town. Meet your guide and start your ride mostly downhill through the suburbs of Sapa, passing through downtown Sapa before descending into Ma Tra village, inhabited by the Black H’mong. Stop along the way for some great photos and a chance to visit a local home. Black H’mong is majority group living in Sapa, they are well known for their unique embroidery. You then continue on a quiet road through a beautiful valley as you head into Ta Phin. At the village you will have time to take a short walk around to explore the village and local ethnic culture before starting the journey back to Sapa.

Grade: Moderate / approx: 11.3 km biking / 2.5 hours / 20 minutes walking.

Back in Sapa enjoy time at your leisure, or maybe try some local food at one of the many restaurants in town. At 13,15 Topas Mountain Express will transfer you back to Hanoi. You will arrive at your hotel in Hanoi at around 19,30.
